Independence Day Flag Raising Ceremony

The Caballeros de Yuma will be hosting the annual Independence Day Flag Raising Ceremony on Tuesday, July 4, 2023. The ceremony will be held at the Yuma Armed Forces Park located at 291 S. Gila Street in Historic Downtown Yuma.

The ceremony will begin at 7:30am and will feature the presentation and raising of the US Flag by Venture Crew 8051. The US Flag will be presented by RADM Robert Sloncen, USCGR ret who is being honored for his service to this country in the US Coast Guard and to Yuma County.

Col. Chuck Dudik, MCAS Yuma Commanding Officer, will serve as this year’s keynote speaker. Service Member of the Year awards are presented by SFC Mark Martinez, United States Army retired, Vice Chairman of the Yuma Military Affairs Council. Awards will be presented to NCO and Enlisted personnel from each of the military installations here in Yuma.

Attendees will also be treated to the vocal talents of Wendy McKay who will perform the National Anthem as well as lead attendees in the singing of various patriotic songs. The Three Volley Rifle Salute and Taps will be performed by the American Legion Post 19 Ceremonial Team and the morning’s event will be presided over by Col. Rob Filbey, USA ret who has been the Master of Ceremonies since 2001.

Caballeros de Yuma wanted to thank Crossroads Mission for the donation of water and another thank you to Arbor Tech Tree Service as this year’s event. Its encouraged to bring the family to celebrate the birth of this great nation and honor those who have served and currently serve this nation to protect the freedoms we so cherish.
